Teen Spring into Madness: Teen Poetry, Writing and Art Competition

The Event:

Come get a thrill as we enjoy the works of local teens. Listen to the bone-chilling poems and flash fiction stories or peruse the the gothic art submissions during this coffee-house style event! Refreshments provided. Open to all ages to attend—bring small children at your own peril as stories/poems will be of a terrifying nature!

The Contest:

Theme

Get inspired by the fiction and poetry of writers like Stephen King, H.P. Lovecraft, Edgar Allan Poe, and Mary and Percy Shelley. Take in the gothic art of modern artists like Alexander McQueen, Afshin Pirhashemi, Gottfried Helnwein and Jasmine Becket-Griffith

Rules

Poetry and Fiction

  • All contributors must be currently attending High-school to qualify.
  • Poems must be a minimum of 3 lines, maximum of 26 lines.
  • Flash Fiction to be a maximum of 1,000 words.
  • Must have horror or gothic theme.
  • Entries must be typed, double-spaced.
  • You may submit as many poems or stories as you wish!

Art

  • All contributors must be currently attending High-school to qualify.
  • Piece must be a portrait.
  • You may use any media type.
  • Must meet the Modern Gothic theme (Dark & Mysterious)
  • You may submit as many portraits as you wish!

ALL SUBMISSIONS MUST BE PRESENTED/DISPLAYED AT THE “SPRING INTO MADNESS” EVENT AT MARPLE LIBRARY ON APRIL 28TH 2018.

Prizes

Winners will be determined by audience vote at the Spring into Madness event April 28th. You could win the following:

  • Your choice of a signed book
  • Gift Card/certificate to local restaurant
  • Free Videogame or Movie rentals from Library
  • Free T-shirt
  • Your story, poem or artwork featured on Marple Library Website!
